Ballet Folclórico Maya | MEXICO – Queretaro

Mexico

The Mayan Folkloric Ballet was born out of dancer Daniel Maya Dávila’s concern to create an inclusive company that would have the potential to bring together people who love the art of dance, regardless of age, physical condition or complexion.

In an interview, the founder explains that he decided to dare to create something different, focused on the performing arts and sones and jarabes performances from the different states of Mexico.

In accordance with this principle, its founder and graduate of Performing Arts is currently working with 34 dancers between the ages of 15 and 50 as well as people with disabilities, all united by their love of dance and with the idea of proving that this branch is not exclusive, but it is part of a cultural heritage of a community.

He emphasizes that one of the difficulties he faces is to ensure that the participants have a unified technique, “it’s kind of difficult to have a 15-year-old dance with a 50-year-old and that the technique of both is United on stage However, the work they do as partners allows us to see the graphic harmony. They have learned to work in this sense.”

He clarifies that in order to belong to his classes, it is enough to have a love for dance, availability and discipline “it is not a requirement to know how to dance, we train dancers”.

To date, his repertoire consists of choreographies of traditional dances from 15 bodies of the country, “in this idea of inclusion with which we handle ourselves, we always incorporate not only the stage dance that we all know, but also research to incorporate traditional dances and little known.

It is worth noting that the students of this educational institution participate in some choreographies. as well as people with disabilities, creating dance pieces that adapt to everyone’s needs.

They have also worked with children with Down syndrome, in wheelchairs and with autism. What they do to integrate them is to dance something that everyone can do, with the goal of feeling included and accompanied, but above all to be motivated and see that it can be done.”

They have participated in events such as the Performing Arts Festival of Queretaro, on three occasions. the Chihuahua Villista Festival, the Zacatecas International Festival, some festivals in Guadalajara, Guanajuato and Jalisco. internationally, in San Diego California, United States and Costa Rica.

They have also danced with bands such as Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Mariachi Gama Mil and the Querétaro Philharmonic Orchestra
